Gulmarg Health Advice
Vaccines
Contact your doctor around 8 weeks before your trip to check whether you need any vaccinations or other preventive measures. Some take 4 weeks to administer (Hepatitis B for example).
For a general list of vaccines see here. Not all of these are relevant for Kashmir due to the altitude (mosquito passed illnesses for example)
These are the basics for visiting this area:
- Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio (1 injection – check you are up to date)
- Hepatitis A (1 injection)
- Hepatitis B (3 injections over 4 weeks)
- Typhoid (1 injection)
- Measles/Mumps/Rubella (1 injection – check you are up to date)
Altitude Sickness
Most guests will not notice any changes. The altitude of the accommodation (the important factor in altitude sickness is where you sleep) is around 2600m and is less than some Alpine resorts. However to minimise any risk of discomfort and inconvenience from even mild altitude sickness, guests should take the following measures on arriving in Gulmarg:
- drink plenty of water
- avoid alcohol and sleeping tablets
- do not over-exert yourself on the mountain on your first day.
Water
Gulmarg has its own water filtration system and so you should be able to drink the water without issue. Nevertheless many travelers use bottled water for drinking and cleaning teeth.
